Abstract
A review of the environmentally induced epigenetic transgenerational inheritance phenomenon is presented. The term transgenerational is defined to clarify the distinction with direct exposure toxicity. The concept of germline epimutations mediating a transgenerational phenotype is discussed. The potential impact of environmentally induced epigenetic transgenerational inheritance on our understanding of disease etiology and evolutionary biology molecular mechanisms is reviewed
