Abstract
Social interaction plays a crucial role in task engagement. Not only is social interaction the focus of many instructional strategies, such as collaborative learning, but it can also support other task engagement (TE) facilitators. This chapter explores social interaction, defines it in the context of task engagement (TE), provides suggestions for instruction and research, and introduces tools, strategies, and resources for use across disciplines to facilitate social interaction.
