Abstract
Bridge damage due to impact loads from over-height vehicle collisions is a major issue occurring throughout the transportation network. In this study, the numerical finite element modeling of reinforced concrete (RC) beams protected with and without honeycomb sandwich panels is conducted to simulate the over-height vehicle impact, and the numerical results are com-pared with the available experimental data. The experimentally-correlated numerical models can be used to perform virtual simulations of different over-height vehicle collisions, and they shed light on the behavior of honeycomb sandwich collision protection systems for RC beams.
