Abstract
Spanish friars served as foot soldiers of Christian evangelization in the Philippines for over three centuries. But how much do we know about them as a population? Data on their identity, date and place of birth, date of arrival, and other information are available. However, they must be organized into a database that could be analyzed to generate meaningful inferences. The database would offer researchers an opportunity to conduct multidisciplinary studies and can help shed light on questions related to Philippine and Spanish history. The paper describes a framework for building and using the database. Developing the project would provide an essential resource to support the study of Christianization by drawing attention to the identity and social background of the men who spread the Catholic faith in this part of Asia.
