Many applications in basic science, diagnostics, and therapeutics rely on the use of antibodies or antibody-like reagents. Single chain variable fragments (scFvs) are central to many applications in the health sciences and are very easy to work with, but are not effective reagents for research without the corresponding constant region (Fc) of the antibody. Full-length antibodies are very well established as powerful reagents, but the process of isolating new high-quality antibodies is very challenging. Therefore, a system capable of producing antibody-like reagents (scFvFcs) is highly desirable.
