Abstract
As the Conference Coordinator for the 10th international Wetland Archaeology Research Project (WARP) Meeting, April 1-6, 2003, Olympia, Washington, i wanted to present the program events, field trips, banquet speakers (Bryony and John Coles), and Abstracts. The international WARP conference was held on the South Puget Sound Community College campus in conjunction with their 40th Anniversary. Sixty nine Wetland scholars from throughout the world presented their latest finds. Also we pondered the future in two panels. The presenters represented 9 countries. (UK: 15 (the country of origins of WARP), Canada: 13 (with a new 9,450 year old wet site on Queen Charlotte Islands), Japan: 10 (with amazing work throughout the country), and US: 20 (much on our local wet site of Qwu?gwes, as well as Florida), and exciting works in The Netherlands: 3, Denmark: 3, Ireland: 2, Sweden: 1, New Zealand: 2, Ukraine: 1--a truly international exchange on wet site efforts. The two panels will be of interest: When Will Wet Sites become Mainstream? (George F. MacDonald, coordinating) and a very good question in US, where you might expect more participation in this conference!) and Comprehensive Cultural Resource Management in Native American Country-Adding the Cultural Component to Scientific Research (Rhonda Foster, Squaxin Island Tribe, coordinating) with a broader discussion including the need for more wet site investigations. The Wet/Wetland/Waterlogged Archaeological Sites Preliminary Themes and Paper titles/authors/affiliations are provided in the Program and Abstract publication here.
