Abstract
Pome fruit in Washington state is primarily pollinated by the European honey bee, Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae). Honey bees could be enticed to visit pear and apple flowers, and unconventional sugar sources like pear psylla honeydew, with pollinator attractant products. Visitation rates, fruit size, and honeydew concentrations were assessed pre- and post-application of Bee-Scent® and Honey Bee Magnet attractant products. There was no evidence that bee attractant products were significantly effective at increasing pollination or honeydew removal, or improving fruit quality.
