Abstract
Advances in smart environment sensors and emerging work in the Internet-of-Things requires more semantically grounded representations of human activity in smart environments. Our work here lays the foundation for semantically meaningful integration of new and novel sensors into existing data-driven approaches to activity recognition. We address basic methodological issues in activity recognition which can hamper future work in this area. We provide novel approaches for representing smart environments and develop new tools to use when building activity recognition systems.
