Abstract

Choral Music Music Education
The goal of this project is to explore the history of pedagogical approaches for solo voice and choral singers. This research aims to clarify which teaching methods work for each type of singing and which are unique to each. It broadly examines the history of vocal and choral pedagogy and then focuses on how these styles are taught in the United States today. Since there isn't a single way to teach, I narrowed the focus to two main organizations: the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), choosing research from each. The results of this project are intended to help myself and future vocal and choral music teachers as we enter the field and develop our own distinctive pedagogical practices.
