Abstract
This work focuses on the ethical dilemma facing veterinarians that work in the food production system. In this project, the veterinary oath is contrasted with the standards of animal care within the large-scale farms that these veterinarians work. I argue that veterinarians are being placed in an unfair position by working in an industry that does not uphold the same standards that veterinarians have pledged to uphold by the oath. The aim of this project is not to vilify the food production industry or those who work within it. Instead, it is to evaluate the current standards present in many large-scale farms, and identify where more veterinary input is needed.
