Abstract
Vitamin A is an essential fat-soluble vitamin. It plays a vital role in numerous physiological processes in the body including vision, cell differentiation, and reproduction. The action of vitamin A is mediated through its receptors called retinoic acid receptors (RARs). These receptors are studied by disrupting the function of the genes that encode them, thus allowing the investigation of their genotypic and phenotypic roles in cells and tissues.
