Abstract
The intention of my research was to find how the role of art in education could empower youth of all socioeconomic backgrounds and how art and education could effectively change and challenge the ways in which the home was viewed beyond its social and physical construction. Arts-based learning initiates a system that goes beyond the realm of linear thinking, challenging the ways in which education is formed, and provides a permanence that fits a more ideal construct in which students can find both a home and more so a community in the classroom. By interacting, observing, and volunteering my time with At Home At School, I was able to compile workshops, alongside Susan Finley and Forrest Kenworthy, that incorporated arts-based methods. This paper and research reason art as a fundamental component in early learning since the creation process of art helps children more easily identify concepts and synthesize material, however, these findings also explore the practical applications art has in the placement of continued learning and how this convergence encourages leadership skills for early learners.
