Abstract
This research investigates and compiles the connections that link Oxford and the development of English madrigals as an attempt to answer this question: are the alleged connections significant enough to conclude that Oxford was essential to the development of the I English madrigals? If Oxford, a man who preferred to remain th~tackground and claimed no v' credits, is clearly shown to have influenced the birth of English madrigals, then the history of both Shakespeare and English music will likely be revised considerably.
