Abstract
This literature review addresses the question: What are the effects of false-positive newborn screening results on parents of infants who undergo newborn screening? This question was chosen because parents of newborns with FP NBS results are affected when their child has a positive screening result and it is important for healthcare professionals to understand the effects of such results. Nurses serve as advocates for patients and their family. Nurses who are aware of the implications of parents receiving a FP NBS result can better advocate for their patients’ needs. This literature review can also help to inform future policies regarding the delivery of NBS services and the education parents receive before their infant is tested.
