Abstract
The collection of data is a central part of scientific research. While collecting data in a lab environment is a relatively straightforward task, field data collection is usually expensive and primitive. Although mobile devices may be used to improve the accuracy and lower the cost of field data collection, few software tools to accomplish this are available. This thesis presents the design and prototype implementation of a system that attempts to solve this problem. This system allows users to specify their data collection requirements using a domain specific language. These requirements are then used to generate the end-to-end behavior of a multi-tiered, cross-platform mobile data acquisition application that is tailored to the user's specific requirements.
