Abstract
The power grid has been used for decades without much change, and is growing against its limitation quickly. To solve this problem, the next generation of power grid, called smart grid, has been proposed. Smart grid can integrate renewable sources such as solar and wind, and make us to use power more efficiently. Two-way communication will be used to control appliances at consumers' homes and reduce cost. An information network is added over the traditional power network, which can collect the running status of the power network, and control its performance. In this thesis, several basic components for smart grid has been designed, including TelosW, power meter and intelligent power switch. Then a neural network has been applied to solve the demand response problem in smart grid.
