Purpose: The purpose of this article is to explore the current recommendations for comprehensive treatment ofchildhood obesity in the primary care setting. Data sources: The data sources used for this article include a literature review using CINAHL and Proquest Medical Library and selected clinical articles and websites from professionally recognized pediatric health care organizations.Conclusions: Pediatric experts recommend combining health promotion with behavior modification therapy in order to motivate overweight children and families to make behavior choices that lead to establishing and maintaining a healthy weight. Implications for Practice: Matching treatment approaches to the child's stage of change/motivation has been shown to improve treatment outcomes.
