The purpose of this paper is to provide a systematic review of the research and scholarly literature surrounding CenteringPregnancy group visits in order to develop clinical recommendations for its use by public health providers and clinics offering prenatal care to low-income women. First some of the challenges faced by low-income pregnant women and their prenatal care is described, then the model of CenteringPregnancy is described. Research and scholarly articles on CenteringPregnancy are next reviewed. Recommendations for use by public health are made, while looking through the lens of maternity care that is evidence based, enhanced, and cost effective.
