Abstract
The work that I have made for my thesis exhibition is a direct confrontation between my past memories, present state of mind, and uncertainty of future. One of the over arching themes within the show is activating a viewers sense of smell. Smell is a human's strongest trigger to memory, and I want to act as a catalyst to stimulate memory within the viewers mind. I am also creating structural parallels between the fragmentary images present in the embroidered installation and the way memories themselves are recalled in the mind. I also go on to explain the variety of different icons used within my work that hold significant symbolic meaning to me. The overall goal of this show is to make the viewer question not only what they see but what emotionally they are feeling. I intend for the viewer to be confused, overwhelmed with information, and uncomfortable in the space. This uncomfortably will come from the manipulation of space, content of imagery, and overwhelming amount of information present within the installations.
