This investigation covers current research in the diagnosis and treatment of GERD and erosive esophagitis, as well as a case study evaluated by the Health Belief Model (Becker 1974). Using the Health Belief Model, the practitioner is able to better evaluate the patient's perception of their health and factors that affect their decision to seek care. The case study approach provides an example of how careful listening to patients can provide positive outcomes in their care. And, when coupled with current evidence-based practice, the practitioner can make a more informed choice of how best to treat each patient.
