Abstract
In recent years immense research has been carried out in the field of semi-conductor radiation detectors especially Cadmium Zinc Telluride(CZT), a room temperature radiation detector.CZT has got an appropriate band gap which makes it a good room temperature radiation detector and exhibit good opto-electric properties. CZT has been grown by various methods and Traveling Heater Method has been a promising technique which results in high purity and good spectroscopic quality CZT detectors. The Traveling Heater Method (THM) of growing CdTe/CZT is being developed in the Center of Materials Research .This thesis explain the details of the furnace systems developed and the crystal growth of CdTe/CZT by THM. The complete crystal growth process includes the charge preparation in the clean room, growth in the furnace, removing the grown ingot and finally characterization of the samples from the grown ingots. The results of the successful growths in the THM01 furnace have been discussed. The features of the two furnace systems developed: 6 zone THM01 furnace and the 4 zone traveling furnace have been discussed in detail.
