Asian American Community Documentary Immigrant Culture Photography
In Asian families, our loved ones often ask - have you eaten yet? And the reply- yes, I already ate. Both are declarations of love, often expressed as concern. For me, these feelings are often hard to present and express in words but, with the imagery I pursue in my photography I try to develop a profound association for the viewer. American poet Robert Frost once stated that poetry is what you can’t translate. For me these familial feelings are hard to present and express in words, but with the imagery I pursue in my photography, I try to develop a profound association for the viewer. Here, the photos can express feelings of grief and protest while documenting sorrowful events. My art aims to showcase the urban Asian American landscape that I grew up with and continue to experience.
