Abstract
Sexual consent negotiation, including actions of asking for consent, refusing sexual consent, and adhering to sexual consent decisions, is a relatively a new study area. Although studies have examined how students communicate sexual consent, there is still a lack of knowledge about what factors influence their intentions to negotiate sexual consent. The current studies used the integrative model of behavioral prediction to explore the determinants of college students' intentions to negotiate sexual consent. Specifically, the present study not only examines the effect of media exposure, but also separates passive media exposure from active information seeking. Survey data were collected from 310 undergraduate students from Washington State University. Findings suggested that passive media exposure, perceived norms, perceived behavioral control, and rape myth acceptance were significantly associated with college students' intentions to negotiate sexual consent.
