Abstract
This paper is a defense of the compatibility of free will and determinism. My primary thesis is that free will and determinism are compatible. The account of free will advocated by the author is a modified version of the dispositional analysis. In the discussion of this account, the paper covers the anatomy of free will along with an outline of determinism and a presentation of the consequence argument against the compatibility of free will and determinism. Once the groundwork for the problem is laid, a short history of the conditional analysis that includes classical and contemporary advocates and its detractors is covered. The paper then reviews the state of the contemporary accounts and attempts to provide a modified analysis that will help support this compatibilist position.
