Abstract
A major concern for advocates, nurses, and families of nursing home residents is\nthe quality of care they receive. Today's nursing home population is older and sicker\nwith more complex care needs. Nursing home staffing needs to keep up with the new\ndemands and changes of the resident population. The purpose of this article is to explore\nnursing home staffing patterns, describe their impact on quality of care, examine nursing\nhome staffing costs as a barrier to adequate staffing, and suggest an alternate model for\nthe delivery of care in nursing homes.
