Abstract
The Circus of Self is an invitation, a ticket to a land of experience and self-awareness through my lens of creation. Here you may wander through the carnival and choose your own adventure, explore the attractions one by one and enter into reflection, or step into the perspective of the carnival’s cast of characters and see the world through their eyes. This place is for investigation, introspection, and interaction. My role as artist is the Master of Ceremonies, the Ringmaster that beckons the audience further into intrigue with announcements of what wonders lay around the room. I am a veritable Willy Wonka taking you on a journey through my changeable whimsy and eclectic tendencies. While the pieces are all inspired by my life and mind, they are ultimately just the catalysts that allow the viewer to see themselves in new ways. By asking the viewer to activate the pieces, I am creating an experience that breaks the tradition of the white cube and relies on the audience to make the work come to life.
