Abstract
After nearly a decade of experiencing anxiety, I have realized that logic is elusive and dangerous in the face of emotion. The artworks in my thesis show relate to my own experience dealing with emotional acceptance. My experience has led me to realize that avoiding uncomfortable situations hinders maturity; the only way to overcome a challenge is to experience it. Throughout this series of painted sculptures, I use water as a metaphor for emotional states, where serenity and turbulence have equal value. I identify with early Romanticists who drew inspiration from the landscape to express themselves and who reject societal norms; I push their ideas into a contemporary context. My thesis elaborates on my formal decisions, historical context, personal affinities and contemporary influences.
