Abstract
Reality is subjective. We construct a customized truth based upon our personal experiences. Our individual narratives unfold with the passing of time while views shift from formative years into maturity. To children, toys appear life-like, full of kinetic potential and vitality. While adults struggle to reconnect with childhood toys, that magic can still be accessed through focused reminiscence. The Quarks of Time Travel is a group of installation art works that seek to communicate aspects of both early life and the now. Varied components such as intermedia sculpture, video, sound, and an assemblage of found and made objects are suspended in an infinitely-looping conversation. This work can be seen as a moment in time travel, featuring notes of quirky familiarity, tricky craftsmanship, nostalgia and confusion. Through unexpected moves and associations, I invite the viewer to relive their own past, to load their misplaced oddities and prized possessions onto an astral crate towed by a time machine.
