Abstract
Traceability information in software engineering is often ignored and treated as if it were not particularly important. Part of this attitude can be blamed on the limitations of tools currently available in the marketplace. Many of the available tools are inflexible and difficult to learn. HyperTrace, a low-impact tool that enables developers to insert and traverse hyperlinks between any information elements, resolves the issues it does so in a way that does not interfere with application use, but extends existing applications to provide traceability. HyperTrace is currently integrated in Visual C++ and Word, both commonly used applications from Microsoft. However, it can also be easily extended to new applications
