Abstract
This paper reviews the evidence that a vegan diet can potentially decrease the risk of further breast cancer events after primary diagnosis. Many studies have identified different dietary components that have been associated with decreasing breast cancer risk. Additionally, studies have been conducted on the health benefits ofa vegan diet in preventing CHD, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer and improving diabetes. However, no studies have been done with prevention of breast cancer recurrence by incorporating a vegan dietary pattern. Incorporating a plant-based diet with increased fiber, soy (a phytoestrogen), and decreased fat content could potentially be a viable preventive measure to educate breast cancer survivors.
