Abstract
You Can't Hot Glue Your Cat Back Together is an installation and performance that began as a window into a fantastic world with recurring characters. This window into this world was originally placed within a gallery setting and, through necessity, evolved into a traveling performance. I, the performer and storyteller, travel to people's homes on an invitational basis and perform outside their window. I wear a crown and a shawl of bells. The immediacy and intimacy that exists within the context of live performance remains but is altered by our physical barrier. The window functions as a sort of screen and I am placed into the world of the outside, which can also then become the world of narrative and distorted reality. The story I tell through the window is a series of conversational vignettes directed toward the viewer. When the final story ends, I remove my crown and shawl of bells and pause. We maintain eye contact through the window for a moment. We share a connection that is important and simultaneously unattainable. Finally, I the storyteller, travel onward to another home, another friend, and to another place, and person, that I cannot truly reach.
