Abstract
The National Institutes of Health (NIEHS, NIDCR) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency convened an expert panel of scientists with experience in the field of environmental endocrine disruptors, particularly with knowledge and research on bisphenol A (BPA). Five subpanels were charged to review the published literature and previous reports in five specific areas and to compile a consensus report with recommendations. These were presented and discussed at an open forum entitled “Bisphenol A: An Expert Panel Examination of the Relevance of Ecological,
In Vitro and Laboratory Animal Studies for Assessing Risks to Human Health” in Chapel Hill, NC on 28–30 November 2006. The present review consists of the consensus report on the evidence for a role of BPA in carcinogenesis, examining the available evidence in humans and animal models with recommendations for future areas of research.
