Abstract
Research on natural biomass-utilization systems has shown us the potential for making theoretical and practical breakthroughs in developing efficient and cost-effective bioreactors for biomass deconstruction and conversion, and thus making lignocellulosic bioconversion more economically feasible. This chapter addresses the novel bioreactors developed from processing bionics inspired by natural biomass-utilization systems, including mammalian herbivores and lignocellulose-feeding termites. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the present development status in biomimetic reactors used for the digestion of lignocellulosic biomass.
