Abstract
Indexers like catalogers must determine how to format personal names. This is generally not a problem for western-
style names but other names can pose difficulties. Indexerr, try to follow the usage of the author but it may not
always be clear which element of the name to file on. In those cases, the oft repeated advice is to follow AACR2.
However, what this means and how to apply this advice is not. always obvious to non-catalogers. This article looks
at the use of AACR2 to resolve sorting issues, the future ofAACP.2, and more recent additions to online cataloging
tools that may be of use to indexers with or without access to Aj\CR2.
