Curating Research Careers: The Cedar Mesa Project, Utah

Abstract
Providing for the long term care of and access to archaeological collections is a multifaceted area of concern. One particularly problematic class of collections are those materials resulting from research projects on federal lands conducted before long-term curation concerns were given much consideration. These collections may have enormous research potential but how to provide for their curation is not clear. We argue, using the Cedar Mesa Collection as a case in point, that such collections should be stimulating discussion about federal agency policies regarding the role of archaeological research and research collections in federal cultural resource management responsibilities.
Resumen La provisión de cuidado y aceso de colleciones arquelogicos sobre tempo forma una preocupación multifacético en arqueología. Los materiales reunieron de proyectos de investigación en tierras federales realizó antes que preocupaciones a largo plazo de curation fueran dadas mucha consideración comprenden una clase de colecciones especialmente problemática. Estas colecciones pueden tener potencial enorme de investigación pero cómo proporcionar protejerlas no es claro. Discutimos, utilizando la Colección de Cedar Mesa como un ejemplo, que tales colecciones deben estar estimulando discusiones sobre agencias federales con respecto al papel de investigación arqueológica e colecciones de investigación en responsabilidades de gestión de recursos culturales federales.
