Yoko Mitarai, NIMS Functional Structure Materials Group leader and Akiko Yamamoto, NIMS Biometals Group leader, then escorted me to NIMS. Yamamoto made her precious time available to give me a tour of her laboratories and talked about the results of her work. She performs very interesting research on the biocompatibility of metals, and also the biodegradability of magnesium and its alloys.
