Abstract
A personal case study of servant-leadership in an academic library is presented. The first section provides a narrative of the author’s experience with the library dean who is the subject of the study. The second section presents a report of the results of a survey—based on Liden et al.’s Servant Leader Questionnaire and Spears’ ten characteristics—conducted with subordinates of the dean approximately one year following her death. The final section presents the author’s concluding reflections about his experience and what was learned from the survey results. Issues of inclusivity, in-groups/out-groups, and forgiveness are explored within a servant-leader context.
