Abstract

High school equivalency Community Colleges Education Migrant Workers
El Paso Community College received more than $3.6 million in grants to fund two migrant education initiatives. Both grants to EPCC's Community Education Program are from the U.S. Department of Education. EPCC's College Assistance Migrant Program will receive $259,000 per year for five years to develop a program that will help migrant workers and family members transition to college. The program will reach out to and recruit at least 40 people, who will receive orientation, transition services, computer skills training, technical support, tutoring, financial support, career counseling and more, according to an EPCC news release. The college's High School Equivalency Program will receive $475,000 per year for five years to create a program through which migrant workers and their family members older than 16 can take General Educational Development classes. The funds will also provide health education and support to help GED graduates transition to college courses.
