Through a brief exploration of the origins and musical characteristics of two folk forms of the Colombian Andes, the bambuco and the guabina, this project explores the improvisational elements of the music of this region. This project also includes the composition of two original works for each folk form, the bambuco and the guabina. One work for each form is pre- composed while the other is a piece of structured improvisation
