Apples--Packing--Washington (State) Apple industry--Washington (State)--Costs.
Apple processors need more capacity to handle larger crops. One result has been increasing interest in presize packing systems. This publication compares costs for small, medium, and large presize systems with costs for four sizes of conventional packing systems. The analysis shows conventional systems have cost advantagesat low yearly outputs, but presize systems are advantageous when a firm packs 750,000boxes a year or more. Under the assumptions in the analysis, costs per pack with presize packing ran from $.92 to $1 .93; with conventional packing from $1.12 to $2.14.
