Abstract

Weedy in pastures, grain fields, and roadsides, this perennial spreads quickly on road equipment and often is the first invading species on shallow soils having winter and spring moisture. The grass matures earlier than most other grasses, is drought tolerant, but completes its lifecycle so quickly that it provides little forage for livestock. Photo and illustration of budlike bulbils aid identification. Cultural controls discussed. 2 pages.
