New marketing opportunities for Pacific Northwest vegetable and fruit growers are exciting and inventive. Farm direct marketing refers to farmer-to-consumer sales, through U-pick, roadside markets, farmer's markets, or mail-order. Field-grown produce offers a special appeal to many consumers. Internet listings have made weekend farm "runs" a new adventure. Community-supported agriculture (CSA), a subscription arrangement, allows customers to pay in advance for fresh, seasonal produce. The grower knows how much to plant and which varieties certain customers prefer. This primer on marketing and farm business management for the grower also provides a snapshot of practices in specialty agriculture. 36 pages.
