Potatoes--Diseases and pests--Washington (State) Potatoes--Diseases and pests--Control. Soilborne plant diseases--Control--Washington (State)
The Nature Conservancy of Washington's Farming for Wildlife project, in cooperation with WSU, has been testing a novel concept of creating habitat for shorebirds on potato fields by employing field flooding as a means of addressing ecologic as well as agronomic goals. This fact sheet will report some of the effects of field flooding on soilborne potato pathogens. This information on the incidence and severity of important disease-causing organisms will help potato growers assess the risks and benefits of creating flooded habitat/wetland rotations in a working farm landscape.
