Abstract

If not carefully managed, dairy wash water can contaminate both surface water sources and groundwater, including drinking water. Contaminants include organic matter, nutrients, milk solids, chemicals, and microorganisms. This worksheet takes farmers step-by-step through their milking center wash water treatment practices to assess their risk of groundwater contamination. Includes glossary and ranking chart. Companion to EB1746, fact sheet 10. 8 pages.
