Abstract
Report on a 1-year observation trial examining the potential adaptability and productivity of forages legumes to provide high quality livestock nutrition while fixing N in the soil. Oxen are relied upon in Lesotho for field preparation. They often come out of winter in very poor condition due to lack of good feed. This leads to poor field preparation, which results in poor maize seed germination, low plant population, and a resulting lower yield. By providing some high quality forage over winter, the goal was to improve oxen condition and ultimately maize yield.
