Abstract
A property ownership history is an outline of the ownership transfers over time. A land-use history, in contrast, is a record of how the land has been used by previous owners as well as natural disturbances that may have occurred. Understanding how the natural features of your land have been altered over time can provide insight into the overall quality of the land. This information will help identify factors that may affect the use or management of your property. Including some history will deepen your discussion of resource conditions and management practices as you consider your land management plan. This manual provides step-by-step instructions for completing an ownership and land-use history. It explains how to use the records websites for Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom Counties, in Washington State, as well as the process for retrieving records from other local archives.
