Abstract
Milk prices are declining. What to do? Dairy farmers in Western states now are feeding bulk commodities and byproducts to dairy herds. Is this cost effective for small operations? The author explores advantages in careful management of dairy cow nutrition using total mixed rations (TMR). Storage, equipment, and labor for feed mixing and loading are outlined.
