Walnut husk fly--Control--Washington (State) Flies--Control--Washington (State) Walnut--Diseases and pests--Control--Washington (State)
The walnut husk fly, Rhagoletis completa Cresson, can become a serious pest of walnuts throughout the Pacific Northwest. While the larvae of this fly feed directly on walnut husks, their feeding will impact the quality of the shell and flavor of the walnut kernels. The larvae are occasional pests of late-harvested peach or nectarine varieties particularly when these fruit trees are grown in close proximity to neglected and infested walnut trees. This bulletin is intended to assist small-scale commercial growers, and plant care service providers to monitor for the walnut husk fly and recognize the damage the larvae causes. The bulletin will provide both nonchemical and chemical management strategies to manage the walnut husk fly.
