Abstract
In interest of exposing intermediate students to contemporary music and drawing attention to female composers who wrote for intermediate to early advanced students, this paper is intended as an introduction and pedagogical guide for specific works in order to encourage teachers to assign these works to their students. This study will focus specifically on pedagogical pieces of three female Canadian composers: Violet Archer, Jean Coulthard, and Barbara Pentland, who were among Canada’s most influential composers in the twentieth century
